Why we started Kipawa.com

Kipawa.com was started by Mark Hogben, as just a web page back in 1995. Having had experience with BBS's Mark was amazed to actually find information on Kipawa on the Internet, so he made his first page which contained about 10 links. As the Internet grew so did the amount of information concerning Kipawa, so one page became three and so on until 1997 Multimedia Pandora Inc. decided to buy Kipawa.com to house all the information, since that time Mark has burnt out many times and he wanders around and mumbles, but is not easily understood.   It was at that time that Gil Lanthier, Paula McFarland, & Ian decided to lend a helping hand in the discussion board and in making much needed additions to the website.

About Kipawa

In our online quest  for Kipawa information, We have been surprised and delighted with the resources that can be found. Kipawa is Lake system and a town located 100km from North Bay on the Ontario-Quebec border, a 7- or 8-hour drive from Montreal or Toronto. Kipawa has a population of 520 or 549. The languages spoken are Algonquian, English, and French. Kipawa means "closed-off waters" in Algonquian, but ironically has 2000 miles of cost line and is fantastic for anyone who likes to canoe, fish or hunt "comme un voyageur". Kipawa is also famous Geologically. The Kipawa Syenite Complex is one of the rarest geological sites in the world. Kipawa, besides being a word in Algonquian, is also a word in SWAHILI, meaning Ability or Gift. Although very few African people have visited Kipawa, we think the Swahili definition "Gift" is the most fitting description for this region in Northern Quebec.

"NA KIPAWA KIWE NAWE"
Swahili (Kenya) for "May the Force be with you"
