C - MENUS AND PROVISION LISTS

On a canoe trip you want good, substantial food and plenty of it - but you also want to travel light. So you do two things:

1. You plan your needs for the entire trip and buy just enough provisions, 
and

2. You buy dehydrated foods wherever possible to avoid having to carry extra pounds.

Food and its preparation can best be handled on a group basis. One good way to work out the food problem is:

1. List the items to have for breakfast, for lunch and for dinner, remembering that much time is saved by not having to cook and wash dishes at lunch .

2. From these lists make up a definite menu for each meal of the trip.

3. From these menus estimate what quantity each item of food will be needed and enter this on your final provision list.

4. Divide this provision list so that each member of the group will do a part of the shopping and will know exactly what and how much they should get.

5. Keep all sales slips for final cost of the trip .

Note: On the Canadian Trip, most of the food must be purchased in Canada in order to comply with regulations governing entry.
