3. Constructing the Provision List (cont.)

18 x 7 x 1/3 = 42 lbs.

What you do practically then is to put 42 pounds of bacon on your provision list.

SUGAR

It goes fast unless you ration it. Think of the many ways it will be used: on cereal (brown sugar tastes good on these); in cooking up dehydrated fruit; and in coffee or tea at breakfast and dinner; and in some special dishes you may wish to cook. About one pound per day for 5 persons should be enough. So, for 15 people on a 7-day trip:

15/5 x 7 = 21 pounds

Of such an amount you might buy 3 to 5 pounds of brown sugar, depending on your menus and the tastes of your group.'

Sugar can be packed to advantage in strong, water-proof food bags or in strong plastic jars.

DEHYDRATED FRUIT

One pound will take care of from 7 to 10 persons for a meal. Remember that a box is not necessarily a pound. Check the number of ounces on the label.

BREAD

One ordinary small loaf will provide 4 to 6 persons at lunch.
