3 . Knowing Where You Are (cont.)

branches. You should keep this going until you are found. However, this should not be necessary if you have properly utilized your map and compass training.

4. Discipline

In every group there will be one leader who is responsible for making decisions and whose authority is recognized. The best discipline, however, is that imposed upon by each person for the good of the group.

Try first to decide the right thing for you to do. If your leader agrees, do it; if he thinks otherwise, do what he says. There is no room on a canoe trip for the person who always wants to do everything differently from everyone else .

5. Keeping Clean

You can be a good woodsman without being dirty. Use soap and water and the tooth- brush and comb, just as frequently as if you were at home.

Always wash your hands with soap and water before you prepare or eat food and after elimination

Soap up when you go in swimming, then put on your spare underwear and socks, washing out the ones you have been wearing . You'll feel more comfortable if you keep clean.
