Dear Ms. Mitchell (and children),

I ran across your inquiry as I had e-mailed the main website for any assistance in researching my Algonkin ancestory. I am Metis (French/Algonkin) with my grandmother carrying the surname "Valliere." Apparently this frenchman had a metis child with an Algonkin woman from a "storyteller's" clan. The woman's christian name was "Regina." I am a pipe carrier and participate in Lakota and Blackfeet (Algonquian) ceremonies including the ghostdance.

Could we both assist with this heritage pursuit. My very immediate concerns are for the colors of the Algonkin tribe (bands) as to decorate my pipe for particular appreciation with the other associated tribes which gather at the ceremonies. I have both a catlinite pipestone pipe and a black Huron steatite bowl and stem pipe which I believe is more Algonkin.

Any feedback to steer my paddle would be appreciated.

Yours in Kiji Manitou,

Paul "SeeSouls" Burke Metis (French/Algonkin)
