I believe that the boating license is federal, which means you will need it everywhere in Canada. But not everyone needs it yet. ->If you are born after april 1, 1983 you needed it since sept. 15 1999 ->All operators of a boat under 4 meters need the license by sept. 15 2002 ->All operators of any sized boat will require the license by sept. 15 2009 Check out www.ccg-gcc.gc.ca for more info or call 1 800 267 6687 hope this helps, Rob
